Movement Tip Monday: The Lower Back Mobility Tool You’re Not Using

If you’re like many athletes, lower back pain can be a big factor in your movement. This is particularly of pertinence after workouts like this past weekend’s CrossFit Open 18.2, a couplet of front rack dumbbell squats, bar over burpees, and then a one rep max clean. Low back, ay!

If your low back muscles need a little release, a “peanut” can help you get into the little lower back muscles and connective tissues that tend to get inflamed. You can make these by taping two lacrosse balls together, or use a fancy version like the MobilityWOD Gemini in our toolkit at CrossFit9.

Before using the peanut, we suggest an activation exercise like the Butt Walk to warm up your lower back.
